When I first stepped into the house I now own, I just knew it was mine. It was a destiny moment. You know that spine-tingling sensation when you just know something is yours? It’s important to recognize that, and to be grateful; but then, you have to recognize when it’s no longer yours. Everything in life is here for us to borrow and then return, lovingly. Realize when it’s time to give something up, and you’re now in someone else’s home, or you’re holding on to someone else’s job, or you’re with someone else’s partner! Many of us overstay our welcome, but we must know when the door has closed.
Situations, things, and opportunities will “magically” avail themselves to you, in turn you must recognize the built-in expiration date. People will walk away, they will pass away, or the momentum in a situation will wither away. Hellos are great, but goodbyes are great too. The key is to allow both freely and without resistance.
I love how in Hawaii they say Aloha, which means hello and goodbye. What a beautiful way to see this concept. On the outer level doors will open and close, on the inner level there are no doors. Life is about freely drifting from one episode to the next. When you sense the season changing, go with it. Don’t get fooled into thinking you’ll be in this episode forever, or that when one scene is over, the entire show is over. The show is never over, it’s just getting you ready for the next scene. Recognize when the door is closing, but keep yourself open and free – that’s the whole finesse of dancing with life. After you can really let go of what’s closing, new doors will open. Walk through, but never fool yourself into thinking you can stay permanently. The next scene may be starting.
