The little things add up, even the negatives.

There’s a famous book out there right now called Atomic Habits. The premise is that small, corrective actions can lead to new, better behaviors. But conversely, be careful with the small habits of griping. Voicing “little negatives” all day can add up and discolor your future. Delays at the airport, minor traffic jams, an occasional bad meal – we love to leverage conversations in noticing small faults. But what good does it do?

If you hammer away at tiny faults, they grow and become big problems. So I suggest you start with small blessings. Use those small positives to kindle good, radiating conversations both in your head and with others. Don’t take small faults and use them as fodder to start a dumpster fire!

To be an effective person, you have to be able to see some semblance of positivity in all things, especially difficult people. Everyone has good traits and we must be there to recognize them and to bring them out into the open. I’m not saying to deny your problems, or let people misbehave, but in order to be outstanding you have to see outstanding qualities in all people and situations. Most of what we find off-putting is nothing but filigree, peripheral stuff that can get out of hand. If you’re finding fault in yourself, others, and in your situations, stop and look around! At least if you have health and safety, and you can build from there. When you gripe about the small stuff, it adds up and discolors too much of your life. Work in the opposite ways. Start noticing the small blessings. Let those add up, and you’ll reroute your life in a much better direction. Stop breaking open small fault lines. Break open blessings and abundance by noticing small, good things today. Use that to make conversation in your head and with others. It will make a huge difference.
