The aggressive driver is the enemy. The unfaithful lover is the issue. That unfair setback is the problem. If only that rude coworker weren’t around! Just eliminate the enemy, wouldn’t that work? How easy it is to view the images of January 6, and to cast rebuke on the savages who desecrated our country. But who were they looking for? If they had found Nancy Pelosi and bound and victimized her, would they have finally restored peace in their hearts? Justice is not served when the “external” enemy suffers. Justice is only served when hearts are softened and eyes are opened.
When you close in on your enemy, try to put them in their place, and seek to teach them their lesson, there will be no rest. The lesson we try to teach, by getting what we think we want, can only be learned through self-reflection, not with repudiation. No-one can restore themselves by locking away those they think they hate. Restoration is only possible when the real battlefield is exposed – the inner one.
If you “win” by being angry, or through getting revenge, it will leave you feeling wretched, diseased, and fearful. The fear of anger is a blinding one, and its actions never satisfy the inner, savage beast. The beast makes us do stupid things. It covers what we are capable of, thinking creatively, working collectively, and coming together, cooperatively. It keeps people locked away in an inner darkness of us vs. them, and it makes the insidious believe that they cannot be happy until the world is arranged precisely as they think it “should be.” No-one will ever be happy when they destroy their external enemies. Happiness will never be a possibility until we target the real enemy – the one that exists within ourselves. Search your soul, when you see others as the “problem.”
