When you recognize the gravitational pull of a certain creative activity, you’re on to something. When your spirit wants to do it again, and again, and again – you’re on to something. When the effort fuels your desire, you’re on to something. When returning to it feels exciting, you’re on the right path. Believing in yourself is developed when you move towards those activities that light up your creative energy – even if you’re just at the beginning stage. Ability is actually a byproduct of love. But be careful. We can fall into the trap of perfectionism if skill is not there when we try something the first few times. If you aren’t “perfect” the first time you try something, yet you’re still drawn into learning more about it, then don’t give up. Look only to the love of returning to that activity (or person!). Look only to what draws you in and beckons you to continue with it. If the internal light dims, go on to the next activity, but don’t stop exploring.
Sometimes, you don’t know what your spirit wants unless you see what it doesn’t. Dance, write, paint, sing, build, draw, move, talk, listen, meditate, dream – pick something and try it! See if it lights you up, and by all means, encourage young people to explore their world! Young children do this naturally. They explore everything, and they gravitate towards what they like. Don’t get to the end of your life before you even take a dip into the pool of possibility. Recognize what you’re drawn to, even if initially you aren’t very good at it. See what pulls you in, repeat it, practice it, and if it continues to call to you – put more time and effort into it. When fueled by love, ability always follows. Hone that love, but don’t listen to the naysayers or the critical voice of perfectionism within your mind. Listen to the “voice” of love within your heart, the force that pulls you into returning to that which calls to you. Believe in your own love; follow your own curiosity; and use your time to explore what the universe is offering to you. Eventually ability will catch up to you, and you will discover your so-called talent!
