Most of us don’t understand forgiveness. Forgiveness requires several important, self-reflective components. It requires beginning a new segment of time on your personal, historical timeline. It requires a point of newness, as if you’re meeting yourself (or the other) for the very first time. It beckons you to create new boundaries, to open yourself up to new expectations, and to create clear distance (either totally or partially) from the one who harmed you. Forgiveness asks you to reflect on what this person is in your life – an asset or a liability? Obviously, if a liability, removal of all contact may be necessary. Finally, forgiveness needs a new dream. If the dream is to include the person you’ve forgiven (or not!), build it with new expectations, but always from the new segment of time that you’ve created. If the past cannot be left to dissolve on its own, or if being together, in any way, restores old thinking or feeling, then it is time to move on, in separate tangents of time.
Forgiveness is a reminder to review your own relationship with yourself. It’s a reminder that the only person you need in this world is YOU. Forgiveness restores self-reliance, and if it doesn’t, it isn’t forgiveness – it’s resentment. It is reconnecting to your wholeness. It is grounding yourself in source energy, and it is rekindling your inner glow. Any hindrance to that inner spark, requires radical change, both internally and externally. And if the change means saying, “goodbye,” in a peaceful, non-threatening way, then you’ll know it. You can say, “I love you,” and “Goodbye” in a simultaneous, peaceful revelation of both who you need to be at this moment, and in recognizing what action you need to take, even if it includes total separation. If you can maintain and expand upon a new kind of love, for yourself and the person you’ve forgiven, you can say “I love you,” and “Hello” for the very first time. The choice is yours to make. Choose wisely, and your new segment of time will feel exactly right and will include your own, self-forgiveness.
