A relationship is just another word.

Relationships deepen your understanding of yourself, more than they deepen your understanding of another. You can never fully know what another feels and thinks, anyway. You’re just guessing, if you do. The only truth you’ll ever know is the one you’re thinking and feeling in the present moment. And that’s a beautiful thing about relationships – they help you relate to your true feelings because that’s all you ever really know anyway.

Relationships are vessels of learning about how you perceive the world, and the reason why you form a bond with another is because that bond is a means of helping you to grow into a better you – everything else is conceptual. Pay attention to you in your recurring encounters with those you love. Bring peace, bring joy, bring pleasantness to your recurring encounters with others, but always bring a better understanding of yourself each time you are in the company of your loved ones. When you understand yourself better, you can express yourself better. But mostly it will help you to blame others less for the pain that you may be causing yourself. A relationship is just another label that you put on the joy you’re searching for from within yourself, in the companionship of someone you love. Turning it into a possessive concept (“my” husband, “my” wife, etc.) will just get messy. Pay closer attention to the localized, real-time experiences of sharing time together, and take note of how much pleasantness you are bringing with you, each time you’re together. Understanding relationships in that way could make so much difference in your inner world.
