Anger is the most contagious emotion on the planet. It also generates enormous amounts of income. The more people engage in angry content online, the more social media conglomerates get rich. Fear-based content online seems to be the only thing that gets people’s attention, and if it gets your attention, snap out of it.
People are edgy. They may be just one word away from an emotional outburst in line, at the supermarket. They may be just one word away from a serious altercation in their work. They may be just one word away from useless harm in any situation. Edginess creates distrust in the world. It decreases our natural response to be helpful to one another, to actually reach out and to create real community, not so-called social media community.
If you feel edgy, get off of your electronic device. Switch off the evening news. Engage with something real, something positive, not with something provoking anger or fear. Focus on something productive, or helpful. Call a friend, go out into nature, look at the sky, listen to good music, and so on. If you’re edgy, you’ve moved too close to the precipice, and you may need a more grounding experience. All of that so-called content isn’t content at all, it’s fodder for the temper.
Anger is toxic and it’s being fed huge amounts of fuel. We’re living in an age that’s addicted to the income generated by fear. Starve your temper by shutting off angry content. Help others who are edgy, talk them off the ledge when they are scared. Help them to see what you see, that there’s nothing to fear. Fear makes money, and money isn’t real either. Reality is – so engage with something real and worthwhile, not so-called content that might be making you edgy.
