Someone told me recently that they weren’t sure if they really loved their partner or not. It’s as though he needed some kind of proof or confirmation. But love doesn’t confirm itself in the physical world, solely. The nature of love, the spiritual side, is illusive. Human bonding is a strange phenomenon because the body and spirit experience love in two, totally different ways. The physical expression of love is easy to see – holding hands, sexual pleasure, kissing, etc. All of these actions are a result of our physical nature as animals. But what about the intangiable side?
The intangible part of love is not anything that can be objectified or defined in concept or words. At the level of subject-object relationship, love is simply unknowable. You can never know love as a nameable object. But there are ways of sensing it. For example, I feel that when love is present in a relationship, your partner brings out the best in you. In a loving relationship, you enjoy yourself in the company of your partner. There is a sense of ease and joy when you are together. I realize there are challenges to every intimate relationship, but overall, your partner is a catalyst for bringing about awareness of who you really are. Another example of how we can sense love, is in how your partner helps you grow. When you sense that you are learing and growing as a person, that is a byproduct of love. How do I know that? Because the universe uses that same “tool” to teach us through our life’s experiences. Think of it this way. The universe itself is a big mirror that is used to reflect back to us that sense of love within ourselves. The universe “wants” us to recognize this loving energy within ourselves. Finally, love is all around you. It’s an ever-present, all-encompassing energy field that is hidden in plain sight. Life is opening your eyes and heart to this truth.
Today is a great day to deepen your understanding of love. Spend a moment to connect to that love that exists within, too. Avoid objectifying it. Instead, become it. Embody its properties. Acknowledge that you are a product of love. Today, embrace the love that created you, and magnify it. Let it flow through everything you do and say today. You might be surprised at the remarkable changes this will bring in your life.
