Your story is meant to be shared. It makes you wise.

When you share your story, no matter how embarrassing or traumatic it is, you are breaking down the ego. Sharing your story crumbles the tough exterior of who you think you are, the part of you that tries to hold everything in and “keep it together.” Suppression will worsen the inner condition, however. Expression of it, sharing it with others, allows wisdom to take the place of resentment and confusion. Expression allows humility to shine through you. When the complexity of your feelings can flow into carefully formed words, the message of their meaning becomes more clear.

The universe of feelings is a complex and mysterious system that is hard to decode. Sharing, releasing, expressing – those are the vehicles of emotional intelligence. Translating your feelings into words; expressing your story into the form of a narrative; articulating your desires into goals; and releasing negative energy that builds up, that’s part of human design. It’s part of what we all share in common. Deep conversations with those you love are far more valuable than you think, not because of what you learn from another, but about what you learn from your own experiences.

When you tell your story, it tells you more truth about yourself. Share your story with others, even the painful parts. Those who hear your truth will begin to resonate with their own truth. Sometimes your feelings don’t mean anything, but other times, there is an inner understanding that comes when you share your story. Share your stories. Share your doubts. Share your insights. Don’t let them be a source of shame. Let them be a vehicle of deep release and wise understanding. You owe it to yourself to share your story, especially ones that precipitated difficult feelings. Someone needs to hear it, but above all, you need to express your story to get the most value from your experiences.
