If you know something, give it away. Share your wisdom, freely.

Each human has a bit of unique knowledge to share with the rest of the world. I know this sounds like a bold proclamation, but each of us has a unique life, and with that comes unique lessons that need to be shared. Sharing what you know about life is amazing. It’s what allows you to be empathetic when others are struggling. Sharing what life has revealed to you, through your unique experience, helps you connect with the broken-hearted, and it’s what helps you become a healer to those that suffer.

If you ever have an opportunity to share something you’ve learned “the hard way,” give it away, freely! There’s no need to be ashamed of what you’ve been through. There is no reason to be embarrassed by the choices you’ve made. Younger people, especially, need to know that their difficulties are not insurmountable and are not ostracizing. Depression, loss, and confusion have been overcome time and time again. Suffering can come to an end, but not if we continue to withhold what we know about “life.” When someone shares a concern, be empathetic. “Hear” their emotions, even if you disagree with their actions. Meet them where they are, and help them climb out of despair, rather than trying to dismantle their emotional turmoil. Help them relate to their problems, like you did. Most people who seek your advice are not looking for you to take their pain away, they’re simply looking to make a connection to you. When others know that you have felt the same pain they have, healing can begin. Your experience has taught you something. One day, what you’ve learned will need to be shared with someone. When that day comes, be generous in sharing your wisdom. Sharing your wisdom is a wonderful way to give back and to be grateful.
