The art of asking: Re-balancing your queries.

Asking comes from desire, and it exists in two forms – a desire to receive, and a desire to give. Either you desire something for yourself, or you desire something of yourself. Asking for yourself is fine (like for a new relationship, or for a new job). But don’t forget to ask something of yourself. That’s the part of you that wants to serve, to give, and to be the best version of yourself everyday. There’s a part of you that is more fulfilled when you ask the right questions. Ask how to become more helpful and how to be more giving, rather than just asking for help or for things.

How can I help others be successful today? How can I give it my all today? What can I do to make a difference in someone’s life today? How can I strengthen my community today? How can I uplift others today? Ask, and ye shall receive, but don’t let all of your queries be askew. The art of asking is in balancing what you ask for – “How can I give?” verses “May I have this or that?” Successful people seem to tip the scale towards the first question. Really successful people make a life’s purpose out of the first question!

Ask for opportunities to contribute, if abundance and opportunity aren’t coming to you. Questions about how to help, and actions of service will eventually yield great reward, but more or less as a byproduct of your willingness to give. Re-balance your asking sheet – ask more about how you can be a benefit to others, before ever expecting to become a beneficiary. When you seek to serve, the other things that you desire seem to follow effortlessly. Give it a try – ask for opportunities to meet a need, when you answer in the form of a selfless action, life serves you back, multiplied!
