Have you ever heard someone say, “We live in uncertain times.” ? That can be a frightening sentiment. We always seems to want to “know” that our loved ones will be safe, that our relationships will last forever, and that our financial situation will be secure. And conversely, we certainly don’t want to “know” that the worst case scenario will manifest itself. But all of this so-called knowing, is simply conceptual illusions broadcast by the mind, right? What are we really seeking when we want to know the future? Are we really seeking certainty? I think what we truly seek is not certainty, but a bonafide guarantee that life will be OK (maybe even better than OK). Unfortunately life does not come with a certificate, guaranteeing 100% customer satisfaction. That which you seek can never be found, except in the present moment. Not the future.
The present moment is where certainty and peace of mind take place. And what you might see as uncertainty, is actually just an unfounded fear of possibility. The present moment is often ruined by the fear of tomorrow. Furthermore, the burden of uncertainty only makes the NOW less satisfying; however, within the space of “not knowing,” there is a beautiful freedom. Not knowing the future is a way of unhitching from the compulsive thinking of the mind. Not knowing is a freedom from illusion, it’s a reliance on something greater than the mind, and it grounds you to the profound reality of the present moment.
Today, there is no reason to be disturbed by what your mind calls “uncertainty.” Actually, you may begin to recognize what a blessing it is to pass your worrisome thoughts onto the wisdom of the universe and to fully absorb all that the present moment is offering you, right now. It’s time to realize the fullness of potential, the beauty of hope, and the freedom of “uncertainty” that is contained in the present moment. The universe is in charge of the future, not you. You’re in charge of how you feel right here, and right now. Now that you are free from having to control the future, rest easy in the sweet relief of “uncertainty.”
