Habits and routines become comfortable. Don’t get me wrong, habits do have their benefit, but we mustn’t live on autopilot each and every moment of the day. There is a part of you that desires something new, often something better – more stimulating than your go-to routines. If you don’t give yourself a chance to exercise choice, life will often choose for you, and that can lead to disaster. Instead, allow yourself to wake up to what your inner being actually desires – give yourself a chance to exercise your own power of choice, each and every day.
Explore something new today – a new kind of book, or a new kind of music. Taste something new. Go on a nature walk and touch a new plant, see a new insect, or smell a new fragrance. Say or learn of new words. Let you body experience a new movement, or to touch a new texture, or to stretch a new muscle. Expand the “vocabulary” of your five senses, so that you don’t feel stuck or bored with life anymore. Expansion of choice will enliven you, and make you feel even more curious about yourself. Routine often suppresses that curiosity. Don’t reach into the cupboard for your habitual, same-old. Pause and ask if your soul would like to create a new menu, with new flavors and textures, specifically tailored to your current cravings. On your usual route to and from work, let you eyes see something they’ve never seen before. Or better yet, take a new route! In your workout, see if your body would like to perform a new exercise, or move to a new kind of music. Give yourself a chance to choose something brand new, when the moment calls for it, and practice this daily. You may be surprised at what you really want, given the chance to exercise the miracle of conscious choice. You’ll feel very happy that you extended the courtesy of asking yourself what you really want in the freshness of the present moment.
