Let your limbs grow, and let your roots run deep, forever.

All lifeforms grow to their fullest potential, except for humans, who get cozy, comfortable, and downright stubborn when it comes to growth. It’s easy to get locked into a rigidity, a mentality that makes you believe that you’ve missed your calling, that you’re too old to learn new things, or that what you have now is “good enough.” If you are breathing, you are capable of more. It’s that simple.

The stubborn wrap themselves in a protective, comfortable layer of what’s familiar, declaring that they’ve done “enough.” Recalcitrance invites challenge, however. You can’t fight your growth-nature. Life shakes you up, makes you grow through challenge (loss of a relationship, financial ruin, lack of opportunity, etc.). Those bumps along the way shake you from unconscious living. Pay attention before reality’s circumstance tears into your consciousness and shatters your “familiar” world. You cannot stop progress, you have to move towards more than just “good enough.” Somehow you need to learn how to grow, how to move towards your land of milk and honey, the expansive, extraordinary realm of your unique potential.

The process of human growth never reaches a pinnacle. It’s on an infinite continuum. Even the advanced elderly can learn something new, if their mental faculties are in tact. Humans are the only lifeforms that “grow” for a lifetime, and try to resist and slow down their growth-nature. You won’t get to the end of your life and be happy that you were stubborn about growing. You’ll get to the end of your life and be happy that you were always willing to stretch yourself, and to reach your fullest potential. Let your roots run deep, and let your limbs grow as high as they can for as long as you have time left on the planet.
