A breakthrough or a breakdown?

Needing a breakthrough is like having an itch that you cannot scratch. You sense that change is afoot, but you can’t figure out what’s calling you. It’s a deeper longing, one that wants to reach beyond what only seems like a limit. It’s the extra “push” that you need, the one where you want to see yourself do more than your mind says you can.

A breakthrough is an intuitive understanding of yourself, not an empirical one. Breakthroughs are when you observe yourself doing something like taking a risk, or curbing an addiction. You observe yourself doing something good, meaningful, and purposeful. A breakthrough goes just beyond the point where the mind says, “you’re not capable.” A breakthrough also knows when to stop, when you catch yourself successfully resisting temptation. It’s when you notice the mind saying that it is “OK, just this once,” and you stop it, like wanting to eat those potato chips, or drink another drink. When you give in, those are breakdowns. When you listen to the intuitive nature of your soul, those are breakthroughs. Breakthroughs come when you’re quiet, still, and calm. You are never more truly yourself than when your mind is silent. Allow your true self to breakthrough the noise of the compulsive mind.

Take that tiny step forward (or backwards if you know when your behavior is destructive) and breakthrough the barriers and compulsive behaviors of the mind. You’ll know when you’re holding yourself back (being afraid), or when you’re letting yourself go (addictions). Sense that you can. That feeling is a peaceful one. It’s serene, and it’s in charge of what’s right and what’s best for you. Let it breakthrough.
