From participation to contribution

3 December 2020

You may find that your day-to-day life is dull. It may seem as though you are just a participant in life, floating or drifting with no true direction or purpose. Today is a great day to shift your focus and transition from a being a participant in life to a contributor to life. When your focus is on contribution, ways of service, that shift in perspective gives you a tiny boost that you need to get yourself going in the right direction. When you take on the role of contributor, you become curious about what is possible in the moment. When you take on the role of participant, you shut off what’s possible. Your focus dulls, and your daily activities become mundane, routine, and often irritating. I don’t think there is anything particularly wrong with participation, but as members of the collective community, we gain so much more in life when we give.

Contribution can come is so many forms. One way is to practice stillness and presence while in the company of others who suffer from mental stress. In that regard, you are contributing much-needed healing energy to others who are lost in obsessive thought that leads to suffering. Contributing positive energy may seem insignificant, but it is a way to start off small. Contribution gains momentum, slowly. Avoid engaging in negative words and energy to your atmosphere. Negative energy gains momentum, expontntially. You can be a participant in negative words and energy by getting carried away, or you can be mindful of your greater purpose. Contribute all manner of goodness to your immediate world.

Today is a good day to refocus your energy. Don’t just let life “happen” to you while participating on the surface level of existence. Think more deeply, and become a contributor. Your contributions to life will never expire, even after you die. What you participate in, mindless interaction, will fade and eventually die with you. But what you lovingly contribute to, with a generous attitude, will impact the world forever. Make contributions to love, joy, peace, kindness, and encouragement to yourself and others. Make a contribution to life today, no matter how small, and give something that lasts forever.
