In business, success is measured by how favorably people respond to your product or service. In the economy of personal development, success is measured similarly. You are likely to produce something today. You produce thoughts, actions, and words. You may cook a meal, write an email, prepare a report for work, run a meeting, speak to your spouse, etc. People tend to focus too much on trying to be more productive, which is primarily about quantity. If you’re looking to make a profit in business, I suppose more is better. But to become a profitable human being, one who finds cooperation, opportunity, success, strong relationships, favor, and one who wields influence – then focus on the quality of what you produce.
Think of ways of improving your product, what you offer today by way of your attitude, words, and actions. Be careful not to produce hasty, mindless words and actions that come from a place of frustration. Productivity (volume) is not more important than product improvement (quality). Be aware and more intentional – use your best words, think your best thoughts, and put out your best energy. Your output will affect your input (the quality of what others give back to you).
Don’t worry about being more productive, focus on improving the quality of what you produce. The quality of your life is enhanced by the quality of your output, not the volume of your output. Doing more doesn’t mean you have a more satisfying life. When you produce your best, that’s what makes you feel your best. If more is your best, then fine, but make sure your focus is always on the quality of it all. Feel your best by producing your best in all that you do and say. When you feel your best, it will likely elicit the best in others!
