There is nothing missing in your life, when you pay attention to yourself.

Several years ago, when I removed social media from my life, my hangup in actually deleting my accounts, was for fear of missing out. The truth was, I did not like how I felt when I used social media, although at the time, I don’t think I understood this. I didn’t even know why I used it in the first place! I only compared myself to others, I scoffed at what people posted, and I often got cross with postings that I disagreed with. I also found myself checking and scrolling, compulsively. I was not pleased with myself when I used it, and I didn’t understand why I kept going back to it, over and over again.

So often in life, we forget to pay attention to those things (and people) that don’t bring out the best of who we really are. We do things out of routine and compulsion, rather than out of real desire. We return to what feels comfortable, rather than going towards what is fulfilling and life-giving. When you feel something is missing in your life, it’s not because you particularly need something, externally. It’s because of an internal need. It’s your higher consciousness, your true self calling you “home.” The universe is simply beckoning you to pay attention to you. It wants you know what makes you happy, healthy, and vibrant. It wants you to provide and to nourish your body’s needs, your heart’s needs, and to give yourself the love and care that only you know how to give yourself. It wants you to be grateful – but to be grateful for you, and what you have, and who you are, and what you can do to make the world a better place.

Feeling like something is missing, or that you’re missing out, is merely an echo of self-neglect – that’s all. You are missing yourself. Pay attention to your body – give it what it wants. It wants healthy foods that taste good, and that make you feel energized and healthy. It wants to sleep well, and to feel alive and radiant. Pay attention to your desires – fulfill them with the actions of your spirit. Pay attention to your feelings – express them, when they need to be released. Express gratitude, express joy, express love; and when necessary, express and release frustration, anger, and grief. Let yourself be who he or she needs to be. Pay attention to what your deeper desire is, and you’ll never feel that anything is ever missing in your life. You’ll never feel isolated, desperate, or alone if you nourish and care for yourself. Nothing will ever be missing in your life when you love yourself, fully, wholly, and joyfully.
