When you need a change in your life, don’t just rearrange the living room furniture

13 December 2020

The universe is evolving. In a sense you can say it has a “will” to change. We too have a will to change, but we often focus just on changes that involve the surface-level of life. “Outer change” involves things like finding a new place to live, getting a new job, finding a new relationship, or getting a new haircut. Unfortunately, outer change has a shelf life. The effects of newness wear off over time. After you make a change in your surface life, you can find yourself once again “itching” for something new. When the changes you make on the outside aren’t satisfying, it may be time to channel your energies to “inner change.” “Inner change” is a formless dimension within you that seems to call to you. When there is a will for inner change, people often misinterpret its message and begin making more changes on the outside. Today is a good day to break that cycle. If there is an urge for change in your life, go inward towards the dimension that is calling you “home.”

Let go of trying to change things on the outside. If you rearrange your living room furniture, it won’t take long before that configuration will bother you again. It won’t make any difference if you rearrange your outer life but have not responded to the important inner work that needs your attention. Stop ignoring the inner urge for change. Many times that intuitive impulse is asking you to take some action, like forgiving someone or yourself, or to stop blaming yourself. Other times, it is urging you to make simple, positive changes in your thoughts, your behaviors, and your words. Maybe that deeper yearning is asking you to cooperate more and to be a better person. Only you know what your inner soul is asking of you. Your soul doesn’t need you to buy a new outfit, or to lose 50 pounds, your soul is asking you to grow as a person and to respond compassionately to the needs of others. It is asking you to do the hard work and to end the cycle of destructive thoughts and behaviors.

Today is a great day to answer the prompt of your soul, even if it says to slow down, to be good to yourself, and stop all of that obsessive worrying. Listen to the still, small voice urging you to change. No more delays. Respond by transforming yourself from the inside out. Spend time each morning on your inner needs. Stop trying to “fix” everything outside of yourself. That strategy hasn’t worked for you. It is time to try something new. Change your focus today and tune into the needs of your soul.
