Feelings try to persuade, but there is something within you that knows better. Feelings don’t have to control your actions, your demeanor, or your decision-making. In other words, feelings don’t have the final say – your intelligence does, that part of you that can calmly focus, that can be rational, and that can make collected decisions, no matter what the body feels at any given moment.
Feelings are sensations, usually reactionary, but they cannot be decisive. It’s your reaction to those feelings that seem to affect your decisions. You can move, make a choice, or take an action in spite of how you feel. Why? Because feelings don’t rationalize. You can make clear intentions in spite of how you feel. You can notice them for what they are, but you don’t have to wish them away or to fight against them. Besides, feelings don’t usually represent anything truthful about the present moment anyway. They are usually about the past and future and can be minimized with focus on the present moment.
Feelings don’t necessarily represent how you want to show up in the world today. They don’t represent what you would like to happen to you today. If they did, then all manner of tragedy would come to you every morning you wake up grumpy or depressed! Let your rational intellect be the primary source of your decision-making today. Let your intelligence guide you to what you want, and your feelings will become secondary. Focus your attention on how you want to appear today. How do you want other people to see you? Do you want them to see you according to your negative feelings? Or do you want others to see you as happy, peaceful, vibrant, etc.? Either your feelings or your rational intellect will have dominion over your life, but you get to choose. When you choose your rational intellect, you will start to have real power over what only seems like limitation to the overly emotional mind. You can no longer be enslaved by your feelings. It’s time for a new leader.
