What works will eventually stop working. What used to give you energy will eventually dim. You cannot be the same forever. You can’t find fulfillment in things that have expired. We all must look for new energy sources. They come in the form of opportunity, or through an idea, or maybe just a small “aha.” Everyone loves the momentum of feeling like life is a wave of energy, propelling towards your heart’s desires. But life is not always like that. There are times of wilderness, quiet, and stillness. The waves of abundance, and the outpouring of wealth subside and retreat. The flame dies out, but don’t panic. Don’t get impatient. Get curious about your next step.
If the inner flame has extinguished, the darkness will overwhelm you, if you just keep moving in the old direction. You need to change, to step onto a new path. You may shuffle around for a while, but you have to get curious about what you don’t know about yourself. Spiritual insight seems to start with a crumb, a spark of inner inquisitiveness. It’s a trickle at first, but it wants to be an avalanche. It’s a morsel at first, but it wants to be a feast. It’s a spark at first, but it wants to be a blazing fire. It’s a ripple at first, but it wants to be a tidal wave of momentum, just for you. Be patient. Be willing to change directions – you’re going to have to eventually. Be calm and sense where your inner wilderness is taking you. Just keep looking for the insightful path, and trust in its direction. If the flame is gone, it may be time to let the unknown take the lead. Go where it sends you.
