Each success story has an initial step, and while that doesn’t seem glamorous, the most joyful part of any venture is actually step one. Earning your first dollar seems like nothing, when you are dreaming to earn your first million. The first sentence of your book seems lame when you think of how you might feel when you see its title on the New York Times best-selling list.
Don’t compare your big vision with the necessity of the initial phase. Save your first dollar. Reach out to that potential friend, and set a coffee date. Write your first sentence. Take your first step towards health. Look into creating a logo for that business idea. Baby steps are not very profound, but they are something.
Jeff Bezos started Amazon with a dream and a few other people. He recalls delivering packages to the post office himself, in those early days. Oprah Winfrey recalls her first interview, with an ice cream man! Don’t look at where your heroes are now, look at where they were when they began. They were once adventurers, just figuring out step one. Progress is initiated today. Tomorrow, there might be a step two, perhaps something bigger, but don’t push. The outcome will get here. Once your dreams begin to advance just go with the pacing life sets for you. If it’s slow, no problem. If it blows up, also no problem. Today, just be a happy adventurer, and focus on step one. Don’t delay your initial action, however. Even if doesn’t grow much now, you’re doing the right thing by figuring out which action item to take, today. Go on, step one is the adventure!
