Winning is not just about receiving the trophy, but about the joy of hard work and getting recognized for it. Wealth is not about possessions, but about the feeling of freedom and security. Relationships are not about what you post on Instagram, but about love, affection, and the challenge of learning how to be your best. Getting that “perfect” job isn’t about the title, but about being wanted and having the feeling of purpose. Traveling isn’t about the opulence, but about exploration, attending to the curiosity within you. Writing a book or starting a business isn’t about those things, per se, it’s about the joy of attending to your creative impulse. Donating your treasure or your time isn’t about getting the benefits of recognition, but about the warmth of generosity.
No matter what you start, a small, online business, or an article for a blog, the joy of creativity will be just as fulfilling as if you started Walmart or wrote a best-selling novel. If you live in a palatial villa or a nice, cozy apartment, the warm feelings of “home” will be the same. If you marry a rock-star, or just an “average Joe,” your love will be just as fulfilling.
The pursuit of more dollars won’t make you more wealthy. If you have a roof over your head, food in the kitchen, and the freedom to get what you need and go where you want, you most likely feel as wealthy as the “rich” do. Behind every desire lies the search for meaning and purpose; the longing for warm feelings; the longing for happiness; and the joy of reward. Every goal is laced with the desire for security, the need for peace, safety, wellness, and satisfaction. Look at what you already have, before you pursue more. It could be you have everything you’ve always wanted.
