The insatiable appetite of gossip. Are you full yet?

Thursday, September 8, 2022

When others have failed or seem to be struggling, it can feel deceivingly pleasurable to discuss their shortcomings in conversation behind their back. But do you ever wonder if people discuss your weaknesses, your failures, and your struggles? Do your soft spots, as a human, seem juicy, topic-worthy, or kindling for a good joke? The ego “loves” to point out weakness of others because in some insidious way, it makes one feel stronger. But real strength is in finding loving qualities, even in the most despicable person. One word of encouragement (compassion) could change a life forever.

Reward goodness, no matter how hard it is to see. It may be difficult, but somewhere, you can find it. If you can find fault, then something good is not far. You might have to stretch, but that’s the challenge. When you train an animal, you reward them when they get it right, and their good behavior is fueled by your enthusiasm for them to succeed. You’re looking for the good when you train an animal. You believe in their capability. We have failed to believe in each other. There is so much to know about those who struggle and who are different than we are. Your neighbor doesn’t need you to point out what’s wrong with them, they need you to believe in them. Be a leader in this area.

It only takes one person to believe in you to change the course of your destiny. What if we all believed in each other? You can change the world if you start feeding your conversations about others with words of encouragement, even if they never hear you. Gossip is simply feeding the ego. The question is, “Are you full yet?”
