Make today better by being more welcoming.

Do you ever get so self-absorbed, thinking about all that you have to do, that you might get a bit abrasive with people? The quality of your face-to-face encounters matters. When we’re in the presence of other people, there is energy. What kind of energy do you notice? Do we invite people in, or do we shut them out because we have all of this “important” stuff to do? If you want to attract more friends, improve relationships, or just to create a better atmosphere with the people around you, reflect on how you “receive” them into your presence. Direct eye contact, genuine care, good humor – they all do a world of good for another, and more importantly for yourself.

Openness is a perception of how you receive others into your presence. Is it gracious, kind, and respectful, no matter who they are? Friendly encounters bring better energy. To pause and notice another will make a world of difference. Taking the time to devote a kinder, gentler attention to those who come into your presence is important for attracting new friends, for getting new opportunities, and to create good vibes today. Being self-absorbed, sullen or unaware only shuts out opportunity and makes for a toxic environment.

Welcome the stranger, open your presence, and be more attentive. Soften your demeanor – your tasks and chores aren’t that vital, are they? It’s the people that you encounter today, that are important – respect them and notice them. Prioritize people, not tasks. Be warm, and receive everyone into your “world” of genuine concern. It only takes a second, and it won’t pull you away from all of your “important” things that you have to do! You can do both – you can be busy, and you can be friendly. Being more welcoming helps people appreciate you, and you’ll feel good about making a difference in their life today.
