Are you serving today? In your job, you’re likely providing a kind of service. An educator serves by helping students to understand, to grow, and to think. A store clerk serves by helping consumers to find what they’re looking for, or by helping them pack up their groceries to take home. In turn, consumers are helping clerks by being grateful for those services. Everyone is providing a service with their lives and with their livelihoods, and when others give, let’s give back by saying “thank you.”
We all serving the common good. It’s a beautiful cycle of purpose. As a writer, my job is to help you, the reader, to feel that life is worth living and has rich meaning. My job is to help you figure out why you are on the planet. If these words resonate with you, my purpose is fulfilled. From conception to death, your purpose is to give, to understand where you come from, to know how miraculous you are, and then to give thanks.
You’re not just a randomized occurrence, you are a compelling reason. You’re not a coincidence, you are an intentional presence. The only thing that you can do with your life is to give and to say, “Thank you” when others give to you. Life is not give and take, it’s give and give thanks. You can’t take anything with you, so the “taking” part is just a loan, anyway. Real gifts are expressions of love. Gratitude is an expression of love. This cycle of giving and the acknowledgement of that giving is the purpose of life. Your entire life is an expression of love. Their is so much wisdom in this truth.
