The universe is diligently orchestrating an intricate handiwork of people and experiences for you, some succulent, and some challenging. But all of the behind-the-scenes work is happening for only one reason – for your greater good. Noticing that greater good, your spiritual work, is called grace. Grace is learning how life is for your gain, and not for your suffering, loss, or confusion.
The emotional pain of traumatic experience, while unpleasant, is not meant to last forever. A wounded heart does heal, but only if you have a certain willingness to know the source of that healing. The source of healing is in understanding, not why something happens, but how it can change you. Healing occurs when you learn how to grow and how to see your life as an ultimate benefit, not a liability. Healing is when your heart is softened, and your spirit moves towards what’s truly important in life – the loving relationships you have with people. But above all, healing makes you take a closer look at yourself in ways that are often difficult to digest.
There is always a force moving you towards healing, towards grace. Grace sees the benefit in all things, no matter how tragic they appear on the surface. There is always something beneficial, waiting for you to notice it, but some people wait forever before they awaken to this truth. They go through life bitter and hardened by challenge, deflecting the penetrative, intentional messages that are embedded into life’s situations. Grace doesn’t ask “why me,” it asks “What can I do to grow; how can I change for the better; what do I need to know to become wiser?” If examined through that lens, suffering loses its sting. By asking, “why me?” you only take on the roll of victim. Take a good, hard and steady look at everything in your life, and you’ll always find grace at the core of each and every situation. It sits peacefully, waiting for you to notice all of the wonderful things that are being orchestrated in your life (good and bad), but always for you to see your life as a gift, meant only for your benefit.
