Enough is enough. Just keep it simple.

Our greater sensibilities are simple, subtle, and gently persuasive. Here are a few to ponder today.

Sensing the need for change: Sometimes we just need a change. Most people immediately think of their outer circumstances (like a new hairdo, losing weight, or a new relationship), and after they change them, they can’t figure out why they are not satisfied. A need for change could be an inner one.

Sensing satiety, fulfillment, and satisfaction: The switch in the brain that says, “I’m full,” has been turned off. Life is like a big casino, full of shiny objects, dings and notifications, and the wide-eyed appeal of pulling the handle just one more time. I’ll have one more potato chip; one more brownie; one more bite of this delicious, succulent and decadent social media post. We’re fulfilled and have had enough, but we don’t know it.

Sensing time for rest: People are addicted to work. We hardly ever take a real break, always connected and feeding our brains with electronic media. What about being? What about sleep? We need sleep and rest, but we see it as a waste of time.

Sensing the need to be together: There are people you work with, but whom you only know in the words you get from them in email. There are “friends” that you only know in the form of texts, filtered photos, and one-minute videos, and life “highlights” posted in 280 characters or less. We need togetherness, physically, yet everyone seems comfortable online.

Most of us have a life with not a thing “wrong,” yet we’re worried, unsatisfied, and agitated with just about everything. We need to recognize the need for inner change, when we’ve had enough, when we need to rest, and when we need to be together. Just keep it simple.
