When your spirit calls you to something, it will contain a certain amount of peace to it. It will feel right, and it will lead you to a more fulfilling response, not one that feels lacking or desperately needy. But we cannot confuse our spiritual yearnings for basic, human needs, however. Take hunger for example. You can satisfy hunger by eating cookies and potato chips. But think of the end result of such “foods” for rest of your life. Your body will be obese and you’ll have a myriad of health problems too numerous to mention. A deeper kind of hunger remains, after making poor decisions like this. That hunger is actually a pang for nutrition. The key is to pay closer attention to both physical and spiritual nutritional needs.
Spiritual nutrition (and bodily nutrition) is in following what’s right for you. We’re living in an age where ignorance about what’s healthy is indeed a choice. No-one with access to the internet can say that they did not know that junk food was bad or that lack of exercise leads to poor health. Yet many humans continue to deprive themselves of good physical health. We also deprive ourselves of spiritual health by ignoring the impulses to do what’s right.
Many humans have malnourished spirits. The spiritual need is an inner impulse that urges you to do what’s good for yourself, to love yourself more, and to be a beacon of hope to others. Your spiritual yearning is one that wants to create more wellness in your life, but it’s waiting on you to make better choices for yourself. It’s wanting to set you free from continuing to make decisions that are based on your feeling of lack, rather than those that are based on what’s good for you, and what brings joy into your life. Nourish your body by making good decisions about which foods you chose. Nourish your spirit by making good decisions about what’s right for yourself. Release your neediness and clinginess to compulsive, comfortable behaviors. Respond to more deeper needs – ones that call you to do more good for yourself. You no longer need to depend on anyone or anything to satisfy your needs. You already have everything you’ve got – listen to the deeper calling and respond to what’s right for yourself.
