Take a snapshot of simplicity today.

Don’t be too busy to take a snapshot of simplicity today. Simplicity is missed in a so-called busy life. When someone you love passes away, you remember the precious moments of just being together. You miss the sound of their voice, or just having their quiet presence around you. Significance is rare, “ordinary” is what life is made of. Even the president of The United States talks on the phone, goes to meetings, answers emails, and engages in common things, just like you.

Don’t be concerned about getting somewhere significant or about being someone of great importance. There’s really no such thing. You can only be in the moment, being yourself, and doing your thing. Important artists saw beauty everywhere, they stopped life’s busyness, and they saw something amazing in sunlight, reflecting on a bowl of fruit, or in “common folk” working in a field. Appreciate a so-called inanimate object, or notice the comfort of the chair you are sitting on. Appreciate common simplicity, everyday. Take a snapshot of it – it’s art. In 20 years, all you can do is be in the present moment – that never changes. You’ll still wake up each day, eat breakfast, and go about your “normal” activities. But the scenes, and the seasons will change. Your appreciation of what seems ordinary will grow more deeply as you age. Notice how beautiful today is, at a micro-level of detail.

Nothing is too ordinary. You might be surprised at how much beauty, wonder and presence you’ll find in the simplest objects and in the easiest tasks. Look at your life (and people) as a wonderful, artistic tapestry of snapshots. Each scene is passing by, but don’t rush it along – soak in more detail. Life is always extraordinary when you pay closer attention to its simplicity.
