You are not the focal point of the world. You are the focal point of your own life. You are the one shining a spotlight on yourself, not the universe. The universe is completely ambivalent to your concerns or about your so-called flaws. The world’s indifference is not cruel. It’s good! The universe’s indifference allows you to focus on what you’d like to about yourself. Not everyone is scrutinizing you, they’re super focused on making sense out of their own lives. Not even the universe is scrutinizing you. That’s because at the core of who you are, you are unscrutinized, you are anonymous in this world, you are free from being judged. If you feel the world is judging you, or even “watching” you, you are only doing that to yourself.
Your anonymity on the planet frees you from the perception that there are people in your life who care more about you than you care about yourself. But people cannot care about you more than you care about yourself. How could you ever gauge how much people care for you? Your sensory perceptions only exist within you. Your inner sense of care, love, and friendship exists within you, not in what you “think” others are saying, feeling, or perceiving. Your awareness of everything you perceive is the center of your world, so own it, take responsibly for it. Move from being a victim of life to a grateful recipient of life.
Taking responsibility of your perception allows you to control the spotlight, because no one else is really shining a scrutinizing spotlight on you anyway. I’m not referring to developing an egocentric perception (that’s hostile and obsessive), but a loving, caring, and peaceful self-perception. How you perceive yourself matters, not to the rest of the world, but to yourself. Spend some quality time with yourself, and start holding yourself in higher regards. If you don’t, the rest of the world probably doesn’t even care. The world allows you to be who you want to be, why not do the same for yourself?
