The art of existence: Who leads the dance, resilience or tenacity?

Saturday, August 13, 2022

Life is not just putting your nose to the grindstone, sometimes it’s taking your hands off of the wheel, or just holding on for dear life when things get rough. When life gives you the authority, you have to be tenacious, take initiative and go. When life takes authority away, it’ll toss you around, so you have to be resilient in those moments. But existence isn’t just one or the other. It shifts, often unexpectedly.

You have to be sensitive to the seesaw of responsibility in your life. Sometimes you can be authoritative, but not everyday and all the time. Sometimes life says, “take the wheel,” and at others, it says, “hold on tight, this is going to be a bumpy ride!” When you’re being tossed about, the key is to bounce back when it’s done. Moments which require resilience, don’t last forever. When you’re being allowed authoritative control, the key is to be firm and decisive, but remember moments of tenacity don’t last forever either.

Are you expecting too much, not paying attention to what life is expecting from you? It might be a “hands-off” kind of day – going with the flow, gracefully dodging conflict, going where life wants to take you. Or it might be the kind of day where you can lead, jump into the left seat, and to go where you want to go. When it’s time to follow, sometimes you just have to hold on and get through it. When it’s time to lead, you have to initiate, take action, and do something for yourself. Somehow, life wants you to know when it’s time to be cooperative, resilient, and free-flowing. And then life wants you to know when it’s time to be tenacious and to get going. The art of existence is free-flowing between tenacity and resilience – which one will it be today?
