Significance is the quality of being worthy of attention; importance. But what is actually worthy of your attention, or is “important?” We have built a society and culture on things that don’t really matter, things that have very little significance. There may come a point in your life where the importance of milestone events no longer carry the same weight that they once did. The significance of graduation, marriage, financial goals, acquisition and so on, begin to dissipate over time, leaving you with what feels like “nothing.” But that so-called nothing is not insignificant! It’s the key to understanding your true self.
This so-called nothing is accessible through silence. It’s experienced through stillness. It’s felt in solitude, and it’s available in the eternal nature of the present moment. I’m not talking about isolation or loneliness. I’m referring to the peace and significance of solitude, that which ties you into the oneness and wholeness of the totality of life itself, not just the segments of what you might call milestones. The way of solitude, silence, and stillness helps you to cease thinking that you are beneath those that seem to have more. Also too, it helps you to stop putting yourself above others that seem to have less.
The great equalizer is silence. The great healer is stillness. The great communicator is solitude. Gravitate towards those significant things and become your very best. Being the best you that you can be is the most significant contribution that you can make to the world. Significance is in the best that you give to the world, not in the best that the world gives to you. Silence, stillness, and solitude are the golden pathways to becoming a significant person. Reach inward and become a significant person – one who contributes the goodness and the very best of who you are, everywhere you go!
