A temperament of determination can create a harshness in you that blind sides your capacity to be compassionate, easy-going, and loving. The edgy sharpness of a busy life can create an aftermath that leaves people not wanting to be around you. Getting super focused on your agenda is good, but don’t allow it to make you harsh. We leave a trail wherever we go, and we leave impressions on people all the time. Wouldn’t you want to create a trail that gets things done, AND builds people up? It would certainly make you attractive, and it would manifest more people in your life that could help you achieve your goals, even faster, and with greater ease.
If you want to make a lasting impact on your life’s journey, rather than create collateral damage from your myopic determination to reach your goals, it’s important to take the posture of compassion. People and their needs are not necessarily obstacles. People just need compassion, that’s all. The posture of compassion helps you absorb the harshness of others, who through no fault of their own, maybe having a hard time. It’s totally fine to get focused, but edginess only makes you feel rotten and repels people. The impression, or aftermath of inner harshness, only leaves a trail of destruction and chaos.
With the softness of compassion at the root of your being, the wake you leave behind will be light and uplifting, like a sweet, lingering perfume. Rather than dragging around the edgy weight of your determination, tread tenderly and compassionately today. Eventually, your lingering effects will be like the tail of a comet, beautiful, astounding and inspirational. And everyone in the wake of your path will be glad, and be better for it, that you came along.
