As your life progresses, the world becomes less and less familiar.

As you age, the world can begin to feel less and less familiar. Rapidly changing technology, new customs, and shocking, new developments in society seem to whiz by in a flash, and suddenly, the world you once knew has become foreign. It’s easy to feel like you’ve become a visitor in a strange land. And lack of familiarity can be frightening for many people. But what’s so appealing about the familiar, anyway? If you look at the universe, evolution is embedded into the very environment in which we live. Change is natural. Our environment was created that way. So in a way, we are guests on the planet, and should respect the way it works.

The universe (the host) seems to push back when we (the guests) try to rewind the hands of time and to clutch to what’s familiar. I think it’s better to respect the ways of the host, after all, the guests shouldn’t demand things be like “the good old days.” That would be rude! Enjoy the freshness of what’s new. Marvel at the variety that change offers. A rapidly and dramatically changing environment helps us to adapt, and adaptation is an asset. Don’t forget that. But above all, be respectful of how the world progresses and honor the gift of change. Move along as your host moves along, but don’t pack too many things. Leave fear, selfishness, greed, and pride behind, and evolve peacefully into the new environments that the universe creates for you, over your lifetime. Evolve and flow with life on this planet, no matter how “foreign” things begin to seem over time. Don’t be dragged into the future kicking and screaming. Instead, walk peacefully with the hands of time and enjoy the newness of tomorrow. But don’t be shocked at the dramatic change you’ll see in your lifetime – it’s all part of the perks of being a guest on this planet!
