Worry can never solve your problems, change your situation, or fast forward or rewind the clock. Worry is the brain’s feeble attempt to keep you out of “trouble.” But guess what? Worry can’t keep you out of trouble, you can actually learn to coexist with trouble. You can live contently with conundrums. You can live with loss, financial ruin, health problems, or any other disaster that worries you. How do I know that? Because every unthinkable, horrible, and life-alerting circumstance has already been overcome, and in many cases turned into victory, by others.
If you are a worrier, that energy can really impair your ability to focus and to be content. But, you can rely on a different kind of energy to get you though each day. You can rely on the strength of focusing on the present moment. The energy of worry, weakens you, while the energy of focus, strengthens you. Strength sees through worry and it knows beyond its cunning ways. Learn from the other human beings that have shown, with their strength and example, the frivolity of worry. Allow worry to subside and fade into the background. Despite worry, people have done extraordinary things and so can you. Know that what keeps you up at night probably won’t happen anyway. Know that others have endured much more than you could ever imagine, so even if your worse-case scenario becomes reality, you’ll be OK! Humans are resilient, and you are no exception. So shake off worry by paying attention to what you’re doing in the present moment. If you focus deligently on your work, you’ll hardly notice the nagging cries of worry anyway. Allow it to become a faint, distant echo, not a constant companion.
