Living a life of truth is not mired down in mental “discussions” over what’s good and bad for yourself. This cognitive dissonance only makes you feel guilty about the choices you make in life. But the truth is all around you, if you just open yourself to learning. You’ve already taken the steps to learning, if you’re reading these words. You most likely didn’t stumble upon them on “accident.” There are no more excuses for being ignorant. For example, it’s easy to know that an apple is better than a donut. A little Googling can do wonders for your understanding about nutrition. Exercise is better than sitting around, vegging on the couch all day. Being kind to others is better than being a rabble-rouser. Substances can kill you. Shouldering guilt for not making better choices isn’t helping you. But being open to the truth will help you begin to make small corrections, if you seek to understand. In a modern world, there are no more excuses for “not knowing any better.”
Some of Jesus’ most famous words, “The truth will set you free,” are among the most impactful statements of any human being that ever lived on the planet. No words have ever been spoken that have made SO much sense, particularly with those who try to lie to themselves. Today is a great day to awaken, and to dissolve the so-called secrets that you are keeping from yourself. Who are you kidding? The essence of who you are, the all-knowing substance of the universe itself, understands you better that you understand yourself. Keeping anything a secret is an illusion, a fantasy that continues to enable you to make poor choices. In other words, it’s not working for you. Life will eventually catch up to your fantasy, and reality will knock you down, often tragically. Rather than waiting for the “wake up call,” wake up preemptively. Knowing yourself, intimately, gives you a chance to make gentle corrections to your habits and to move towards growth and nourishment, rather than guilt and shame. Our lives are meant to thrive, and in order to thrive, you must nourish your mind, body, and soul. Be a seeker of what’s true. Practice the truth. Generally speaking, practicing the truth means making choices that feel more difficult. The truth is not often the path of least resistance. The truth often feels counterintuitive, but it’s the only way forward – to lean into what seems hard. But when you learn to gravitate towards what feels difficult, the magic really begins. Accept the challenge of the truth, and be grateful for what it can teach you. It can teach you the way to freedom. You will be amazed at what you unleash when you rightfully embrace what you deserve in life.
