Respect your time and restore your attention

27 November 2020

With so much technology all around you, it is so easy to allow too much unnecessary information into your mind. The world is competing for your attention. Every time you click on a link, or you play a video on social media, someone gets rich. Executives of social media are meeting to strategize ways to get and to keep your attention. There are people that know just how valuable attention is, and often we freely give it away, without objection.

Your time and your attention are so incredibly valuable, so why would you give them away by consuming information that has little or no relevance to your daily existence? Today is a good day to take back your time and to focus your attention on those things that matter to you. Put your energies on doing something good for yourself and others. Tackle those projects you’ve put off. Dial back the amount of media that you consume. Chose education over entertainment. Take a moment to just be. Don’t give away your precious time by scrolling through social media or by watching news personalities talk about things that upset you. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that you use your time wisely, and you respect your God-given ability to pay attention.

Life is too precious to waste time giving your attention to mindlessness. Today, put your attention on something worthwhile. Be in command of your time and take action on something worthy. Get out into nature. Reach out to someone you haven’t talked to in a while. Bake some homemade cookies. These small things restore the beauty of living. When you are faced with your death, I am certain you won’t wish that you had spent more time watching news or reading FaceBook posts. Immerse yourself in the beautiful, simple moments of today and restore respect for the precious resources of time and attention.
