The White Guy and the Red Guy

Saturday, January 17, 2026

If the forces that “give” are not the same as the forces that “taketh away,” you are under the impression that there is a God “out there” messing with you, and life is a tease.

If God is the healer, who is the sick-maker? If God restores, who breaks? If God gives life, who gives death? If God is good, who is evil? If there is a difference between sickness and healing, restoration and brokenness, life and death, and good and bad, you’re in a conundrum. You won’t find the devil, so don’t even get me started on the lunacy of blaming a red guy with a pitchfork anymore than praising a white guy with a trident.

If God takes from the rich and gives to the poor, who gives to the rich and takes from the poor?

Who is responsible? What is making me so miserable by “giving me” blessing, “making me” love my gifts, and then – “taking them” away? Is the responsible party, the guilty party, the evil party, and the pity party one and the same? If there is no-one to praise and no-one to blame, then there is no-one to tease, to rob, to take or to give. Washed clean.

Love is unreasonable, so is existence. I can’t seem to find a reason for anything. What’s more unreasonable is my attempt to “try” to find a saving God or a red guy causing the problems.

You’d be disgusted to learn that everything from child molestation to beheading and from torture to cancer and death itself are sourced from the same as all of those so-called blessings. Let’s not go there, but it’s a good start because it makes some sense out of suffering when there is absolutely no-one to shake a fist at for the bad or to praise for the good, when all things are sourced equally and one and the same.
