Believe it or not, your life contains nothing nor anyone that you cannot live without. I realize that seems like a harsh statement, but it is so very true. Look closely at the lives of others, and learn of the traumatic losses incurred by many people throughout history. People have time and time again literally lost everything. Life savings, gone. Family members, friends, marriages, siblings, gone. Good health, gone. Jobs and careers, gone. But there is always an amazing truth in such loss, and that is the truth of human resilience. And if total recovery is not possible, adaptation is. The pit of despair always has a bottom, upon which to ricochet.
Over attachment is a concept of extreme illusion. It gives you a false sense of security, if you allow your mind to attach too deeply to that which you think you cannot live without. All of the attachment you feel now, is only a false sense of security. Guarantees of safety, promises of security, and thoughts of “forever” belong to no one. You are the owner of no one, through the possessive sense of the word “my” (“my” husband, “my” daughter, “my” mother). Dominion over them is claimed by the universe, which gives them the freedom of their own spirit, just like you have. There is nothing, nor nobody that you can keep “safely” by your side, indefinitely.
No-one ever wants to lose anything, but loss will always find you, eventually. But the life lesson is that you can cope. You can and always will recover, no matter how bad it seems in the moment. Furthermore you can always be grateful for the time remaining! There is something within you that attaches to nothing, is affected by nothing, and adapts to everything if needed. Know it, and rely upon it, especially in times of trouble. With that inner strength of your own resilience, you can withstand anything and recover from any loss that comes your way, no matter how much you think you’re attached!
