New or the same, the quality of your life rarely depends on either.

The quality of your life doesn’t always depend upon the external circumstances of it. When you make changes to improve your life, (new relationships, new jobs, new cities, new haircuts, new anything), they have an expiring sense of satisfaction over time. Once you rearrange everything, you have to interface with it. And as you interact with novelty, it only feels exciting, until it becomes old again. When we see old and routine, we have a tendency to turn that into the problem and seek change again. It can become a never-ending cycle. The once, so-called solution, the missing piece, the gateway to happiness, turns into the problem as it grows old. What was once exciting and new becomes boring, old, and contentious. The opposite can be true too. For many, they cling to what’s old, only because it’s comfortable and familiar. But you cannot find yourself in any of it, and searching for depth in external condition, (through change, or what’s the same) can become addictive.

In many ways, it’s better to loosen your association with the conditions which surround you, and to start paying attention to your internal condition. You can interface with your current surroundings, without depending upon their change (or sameness) to make you feel deeply connected, happy, satisfied, and peaceful. How you interact with your surroundings, no matter what they look like, is totally up to you – friend of foe, it’s your choice. But it’s rarely the outside that needs change, anyway. External conditions can provide a distraction, a sense of excitement (or comfort) only for a short time. But mostly likely, real change is calling you, internally. And you can always focus on that important work, no matter what the outside looks like.
