Gain and loss and the impermanence of it all.

Both through the inward stroke of taking in experience, and in the outward processing of determining what it all means, we are the channels through which all things come and go. But the universe has designed an impermanent world, so you’re fooling yourself if you think you’ll “own” your gains or have to pay for your losses forever. All of it, even your memory, is temporal.

When we arrive at the peak of the mountain in life’s highlights, there is a part of us that believes we can live there forever. But because the universe has designed an impermanent world, it will push you off of the mountain top, over and over again. The peak of the mountain will always be a moving target, and so will the valley. So when you’re on the mountain peak, take a good look, take it all in and look down. And conversely, when you’re in the valley, the emotional discomfort will be removed, if you just look up.

Gain and loss can be in peaceful and perfect balance with each other, in your inner being. No more than you can inhale (win) forever, can you exhale (lose) forever. That’s because nothing is forever. As human beings, we are learning that we are nothing but a channel through which all things pass. Are you a channel of peace and love, or are you narrow, too possessive, creating friction with the boundaries that you have created for yourself? Widen your channel, open the conduit of your spirit, and allow goodness to pass in and what’s toxic to be expunged, freely and without resistance. Unclench your fists and release all that you hold onto. Remember all of it is temporary. You are the ebb and the flow of gain and loss. You are the wise learner, the one who is figuring out how to sift the chaff from the wheat. That’s called becoming a better person, and that’s why you’re here in the first place.
