Infancy, initial, initiate, inaugurate, institute – all of these common synonyms for the word “begin” start with a key word. That key word is “in.” Even the word begin, contains the word “in.” Therein lies an important clue as to the power and availability of beginnings at any point of your life, and with whatever you wish to accomplish. Beginnings are the essence of what could be, but too often, we ignore the real potential of beginnings. What lacks in modern society is the inability to stick with what could be a possible outcome. Productive words like, outcome, output, outstanding, outturn – all of these imply something quite different than the inward nature of a beginning. You can see there is a common element in synonyms for productivity – the word “out.”

Most of society is obsessed with the extrinsic nature of outcome, rather than the more intrinsic nature of beginning. In many ways, planning and watching a garden grow is much more rewarding than seeing it in its mature form. What you wish to create (good health, better habits, new careers, new relationships, etc.) from the very initial stage takes commitment from the beginning, it takes imagination, but above all it takes timely effort. The inward nature of beginnings require a belief that you, yourself are inwardly capable of anything. There is great reward in bearing witness to what can happen when one values oneself and the inward miracle of returning to the very beginning. The present moment provides countless opportunities to return to the beginning. It always invites you back, if you slip or doubt yourself. But once there, it’s your job to remain committed to follow through, to make steady effort, and to believe that the outcome will be meaningful to you. Don’t throw away the initial stage of what beckons you to change your life. As a matter of fact, cherish those beginnings, and then initiate the action that it requires. Get excited about what possibilities exist in infancy! Stick with the possibilities, then trust in the magic of knowing that what you sow will grow into exciting outcomes. The process-oriented beauty that exists in bearing witness to the initial ideas of your imagination is indescribable – don’t give up on the new segments of time that you can create, right now. The present moment is always inviting you back to the beginning.
