The remarkable personal freedom of becoming teachable.

Life is trying to teach you something. The circumstances of your life, the people you have relationships with, and very often, your hardships are trying to teach you. Are you willing to learn? When you become a willing student of life, a clearer path to personal freedom, purpose and peace begins emerge. Boredom, guilt, despair, unease, and regret are emotional conditions that are not necessarily “problems,” but signals. They are signals pointing you inward, towards yourself and downward, towards your gut instinct. Negative feelings of unease can eventually point you towards what does make you feel more at ease, more at peace, and free from guilt – if you are willing to follow through on the actions that are being revealed to you.

One of the best ways of becoming teachable is by asking earnest questions, and by giving yourself the time and space to “hear” the answers. Teachable people ask, “What do I need to know?” “What do I need to do?” “Where do I need to go?” The revelation of wisdom (the right answers to these questions) is often accompanied by a rooted, gut-level feeling of peace and freedom, even if the decision or action requires radical change or potential difficulties in the short term. Submission to what feels peaceful and free is essentially at the heart of becoming a teachable person. You’re ready to listen. You’re eager to be shown, through experience, where you need to go, and what you need to do. You no longer fear the revelation of who you really are, through circumstance. You embrace it, you own it, and you surrender to it. From there, you are able to follow that which feels peaceful, totally free from guilt, despair, anxiety, and regret. Become teachable, and life will show you the way to freedom, one peaceful step at a time.
