When the bill comes, send the money with great joy! The mechanic has fixed your car and made you free – rejoice! The city has picked up your garbage, processed your toilet waste, and maintained your roadways. “The City” are your people.
When the mortgage is due, send a little “extra” to say thanks. The bank has provided you with cash, and the interest you pay is a way of saying thanks for the loan! I’m living in my dream house, thanks to your service. “The Bank” are your people.
When the plumber comes to collect for cleaning out the gunk clogging your drain, your gunk, in the house you bought with the money provided for you from the bank, don’t get upset. Say thanks for cleaning my drain that I clogged in the house I bought with the money I didn’t have!
When the contractor’s final bill is on the “high side” because you saw he took his time, added aesthetic detail, and you’re in awe of the effort he put into it, for your pure enjoyment – pay more than the “high side.” When your personal trainer goes the extra mile, spending an additional 30 minutes with you than normal – pay on the higher side of the hide side.
Notice when you’re a cheapskate! You think people are cheating you, but you are cheating them. The city, the carpenters, the plumbers – they may not see nor enjoy the fruits of their labor – you do.
They are service providers. Are you being served, or are they “sticking it to you?”
Likely, you are sticking to them. But what is this stick? Maybe there isn’t one, and we’re just being pricks to honest people who are just doing their jobs.
Are they out to “get you” or to serve you?
