Are you off?

Wednesday, July 1, 2026

You wake up, and something nags – “What NOW?” That’s how we start. Annnnnd….We’re off! Let the chase begin!

The aggressor has picked up the scent. She’s after it! Away she goes to conquer and fix. Her eye is on the target, she has zoned in her prey, in for the kill.

The implication of the aggressor is her second cousin, victimhood. Her paranoia has gotten her trembling. She is the prey. The aggressor has her in the crosshairs. Nowhere to run – stay in bed, crouch down. Life is Freddie Krueger.

If you are the prey, Freddie is hunting you. You crouch in a foxhole. You wonder – “Why do these things always happen to me?” “Why can’t I get one lucky break?” “Why can’t I get out of this hole?” You’re watching your back, constantly in the past.

If you are the victim (the prey), you are chased by your own nightmare. If you are the aggressor, you have prey, you are chasing your dreams or marching with visions of grandeur to conquer and fix a perfect god’s “messed up” world. Onward Christian Soldiers, marching as to war!

What goes before you? Where’s the fire if not in your imagination? Where’s the prey, if not in your own imagination? Going after a dream? You’re on the hunt. Letting a dream chase you? You’re on the run. Being victimized by life, you’re paralyzed in your own foxhole.

To prey is to pounce, go after, and fix. To be the prey is to flee or hide.

To pray ceaselessly is to practice contentedness. What goes before you? Calm, cool, collected, or nightmares, dream chasing, and a god in the sky leading an army? We’re “off” when we prey and when we are being preyed upon.

We’re “on” when we pray – still, centered, quiet, calm, and collected.

Are you “off?”
