Elephant and all.

What fools are we to think we can do anything mistake-less. The universe has mistakes in it, but that’s the beauty. That’s the laughingstock. That’s the whimsy. That’s the charm, or the elephant in the room.

You may think that the best of the best never screw up. They do, it’s just that their mistakes are smooth. Some of us make obvious mistakes, others make them “as if” they never happened. They gloss over them and roll with them realizing the elephant is but a friend. It takes time to build that kind of trust in “improvising” or stumbling your way to the big leagues.

There is no “final product.” The bookstores are full of books with questionable grammar and typos. Even the Bible, God’s “perfect” inerrant word is full of contradictions and things we cannot agree upon. Call it lost in translation, room for interpretation, but I call it perfect, the punchline ready for a laugh, the smooth dance around the elephant.

If the universe is imperfectly perfect, in that way, then so am I. The mistake is perfectionism, those that expect to beat themselves at their own game. No matter how it comes out, it’s always whole, isn’t it? A performance, a paper, a tree, or a dog – something is a little “off.” And that’s what makes it charming.

Embrace your charm and quirkiness. Who cares if your nose is crooked or you don’t spell “you’re” correctly and spell it “your.” Whoops. My Morning Motivator is full of the glorious mistakes. It’s charming. It’s me improvising and rolling with the punches and the elephant.

It will never be perfect. But that is never the goal. The goal is to be honest. Whole. Charming and full of potential improvement.

Seems perfect to me, and I love it just the way it is, and I hope you do too, elephant and all.
