A Recipe for Guilt.

What law did you break? A question for the guilty-minded. Lest we forget what’s necessary for guilt? Role play.

Guilty about the past? Your weight? Your impure thoughts? Your neglected health? Your doomscrolling? In the roleplay, you’ve just lost track.

Here is a recipe for guilt:

The Lawmaker – this is the expectation. You set the goal. You set the intention. You set the deadline. You set a “must have.” The law is laid. This must be a certain way. This must be done at a certain time. This goal must be reached. This event must take place. This situation must be in situ. That situation should never have occurred. It violated expectancy. Who sets the law?

The Prosecutor – this is the nag, the accuser. You missed that event. You chose lounging instead of working. You didn’t do what you set out to do. You didn’t complete your tasks. You didn’t eat the number of calories you said you would. Who is the accuser?

The Perpetrator – this is the one who failed to meet expectancy. Who is the violator of the law?

The Judge – this is the one who sits enthroned. You wretch. You piece of shit. You are a terrible person for not doing what you set out to do. You violated “nature.” You betrayed yourself. You denied yourself. You let others down. You missed your opportunity. Now, rot in hell. Who is the judge who sits above the perp?

The Victim  – this is the guilty feeling. This is the one who sits in prison, wondering why life is punitive.  This is the one who feels she violated “the law,” was accused of being worthless, and was sentenced to being a piece of shit, judged as sinful and wrong. Who is the victim?

Who are these people? I play all the parts. How can I be guilty?
