I have a tendency to feel that “pull” in the morning, especially if I’m sleep deprived, if “nothing” seems to be happening; or if I have spent too much time on YouTube. The drag is a slant towards emptiness, a pull into the false world of gloomy thoughts.
When something “weighs” heavily on your heart, you feel burdened. I’m not sure what this heaviness is, other than some form of a hazy story, feeling bluesy, or what’s commonly called “concerned.” Jesus called it burdened and heavy-laden. This pull, also called resistance, is why we have practices. As physical beings, we will feel the polarities of positive and negative. We “drag” ourselves towards negative – lack, old-age, having no zest, and feeling unfilled. Why is this pull towards gloom so easy? Being negative is too easy. I have no answer! The pull is always with me, and I cannot conquer the blues. So I live with them, distantly.
Does one ever fully transcend the blues? Being heavy-laden is not confronted and nixed, but met softly, each morning. Silence first. Journaling, meditation, and gratitude. Reading (The Tao, Bhagavad Gita, Psalms etc.). Vigorous exercise, yoga, and movement. Spiritual practices keep the blues at bay.
There is no “cure” for the blues, but they are met daily. No-one overcomes darkness without daily prayer. No-one “masters” being light, joy, and peaceful without daily holiness. Weariness creeps in. We must boost our own morale in presence, as we notice gray skies trending. We pause and reflect.
The blues, either heavily present or merely distant, have no cure. Inclining your spirit to the Light starts early in the morning and is practiced daily. The ease of being a drag, under the pull of “the blah’s” makes you status quo. Few people practice daily exercise for body boosting. Even fewer practice daily prayer or morale boosting. Be extraordinary.
