I once heard an astronaut say about earth, from space you notice something jaw-dropping. The thin layer that seems to be keeping us alive is nothing. We are within inches of destroying ourselves. This relatively tiny sheen above the earth is deteriorating because of “the economy.”
The Stockmarket is mental buffoonery. So if you put those things first, it would seem that your God is a buffoon. Many people put God “first” in their lives, in the same way as the economy is first. Watch what God is doing by watching the news and the ticker tape. When you put the economy first, society, people, and “life” drop to the bottom, and the planet rots.
So, how do we prioritize? Without this thin layer that keeps the biosphere alive, imagine putting Benjamin Franklins in its place to “solve” climate change, purely caused by human behavior. That’s how most people’s God “fixes” – from heaven. God, a concept, is volatile. You cannot put concepts first. A graven image won’t come through. The economy won’t do a thing at the crux of life and death.
If you examine your conscience, you will learn what drives you. Decision-making is about “who’s first?” Benjamin Franklin, God, the economy? You are driven by pure desire. Will. Determination. Love. Life. Imagination. More concepts, I know. But the living God is hard to describe. A fragile, thin layer “covers” truth. But you’re exposed. No dollars protecting. No economy leading. No label describing.
Like labels and concepts, God is dead. There is that which goes far beyond. Beyond concept lies the living truth. God is in the way. The economy is in the way. You are that living truth, the only way to change for the better. No concepts, but powerful, open, and capable without a dollar (or a god) to screw it up. Are you among the living?
